Rae Martini's photography is a record of the sophisticated matter that the natural temporal sequence offers us. Decades vibrate on surfaces, generating textures and sectors that automatically sculpts a layered self-portrait. Surfaces serie is complementary to his work on canvas and paper, anticipating the vast concept on which the Modular and Systems works are based.
The dynamic state of matter is the main character, lying on that portion of space that is contour of a body, posing as a boundary between outer and occupied space. The total absence of the gesture makes the image look solemn. The object on which the research is based is everything that allows time to manifest its flow, whatever the starting condition of the surface that hosts its action. Places become non-places, no longer belonging to the human being but to everything that has existed since before him. Images laden with clues, events, information, geometry, balance, apparent stillness.
Each surface delivers an alternative physicality of time quantified differently than the movement of analog hands. The biology, physics and chemistry of the elements create a perpetual dance that delivers to the temporal succession the task of expressing the wonder of something that is without calculation but is pure existence. All this is happening in the digital age and the enormous advances of quantum mechanics, a science in which the time variable (T) is equally protagonist with mathematical keys that complement the aesthetic ones manifested in nature and on material surfaces, such as the hundreds of years old papers used by the author to create the Modular works.

La fotografia di Rae Martini è un archivio sulla materia generata dalla successione temporale. Esistono superfici sulle quali vibrano le decadi, generando automaticamente trame, settori e una propria stratigrafia. Il lavoro fotografico è prologo di quello su tela e carta, anticipa il concetto sul quale si basano le opere Modulari e i Sistemi.
Lo stato dinamico della materia è protagonista, giace su quella porzione di spazio che è contorno di un corpo, ponendosi come limite fra lo spazio esterno e quello occupato. L’oggetto su cui si basa la ricerca è tutto ciò che consente al tempo di manifestare il proprio scorrere, qualunque sia la condizione di partenza della superficie che ospita il suo agire. I luoghi diventano non luoghi, non più appartenenti all’uomo ma a tutto ciò che esiste da prima di lui. Immagini cariche di indizi, di eventi, di informazioni, di geometrie, di equilibri, di staticità apparente.
Ogni superficie consegna una alternativa fisicità del tempo, quantificato diversamente rispetto al movimento delle lancette analogiche di un orologio. La biologia, la fisica e la chimica degli elementi creano una danza perpetua che consegna alla successione temporale il compito di esprimere la meraviglia di qualcosa che è privo di calcolo ma è pura esistenza. Tutto questo accade nell’era dei progressi della meccanica quantistica, scienza nella quale la variabile tempo (T) è altrettanto protagonista con chiavi di lettura matematiche che completano quelle estetiche che si manifestano nella realtà, come i segni sopra le carte antiche di centinaia di anni utilizzate dall’autore per creare le opere Modulari.
